Bangalore: It may seem strange if the latest reports by Akamai technologies is to go by, the enhanced internet speed is to come with positive economic effects and vice versa. The ranking was based on the average peak connection speeds from traffic flowing through Akamai’s global network from July through September 2013. The report says that the first four positions were bagged by Asian countries and the global average stood at 17.9 Mbps. Listed below are the top 10 countries with fastest internet connection in the world as compiled by Bloomberg.


#10 Belgium (Peak Speed: 38.5mbps)


With almost 82 percent of the population using the internet and having 11 million registered IP addresses, Belgium clocked 38.5megabits per second speed to attain the tenth position. The newly attained speed is noted to be an increase by 18 percent when compared to the previous year.

#9 Netherlands (Peak Speed: 39.6mbps)


Netherlands bagged the 9th position in the list with the national average peak speed of 39.6 megabits per second which is double the global average speed. The country that lies below the sea level had a hike of 1.9 percent in its speed when compared with the previous quarter.   


#8 Taiwan (Peak Speed: 42.7mbps)


The national average peak Taiwan, the country popular for the mobile manufacturer HTC stood at the 8th position with the national peak at 42.7 megabits per second. The quoted speed was half a time faster than previous year and  8.2 percent faster than the previous quarter.


#7 Latvia (Peak Speed: 43.1mbps)


This small country in the European Union was able to achieve internet speed of 43.1 megabits per second as their average national peak. The speed is regarded to be 3.3 percent slower than the previous quarter.



#6 Romania (Peak Speed: 45.4mbps)


Romania stood at the third position a year ago while this time the country slipped down to the 6th slot with an average peak speed of 45.4mpbs. This speed is regarded to be 4.4 percent slower than of what was marked in the previous quarter.


#5 Israel (Peak Speed: 47.7mbps)


Israel is indeed prancing at great speed when it comes to internet connection with a 55 percent increase in just one year. The country took the 5th position clocking a speed of 47.7 megabits per second and has increased by 19 percent when compared to the previous quarter.


#4 Singapore (Peak Speed: 50.1mbps )


With connectivity rate of over 99 percent Singapore grabbed the 4th position for the national average internet peak speed which was recorded at 50.1 megabits per second. The speed is calculated to be three times of that of the global average and is regarded 63 percent faster when compared to previous year.



#3 Japan (Peak Speed: 52mbps)


In the list of countries with the fastest internet speed “land of the rising sun” scored third position with a national average speed of 52 megabits per second. The speed is considered to be 6.4 percent higher than what was recorded the previous quarter.


#2 South Korea (Peak Speed: 63.6mbps)


South Korea was rewarded with the second position as they were at a speed thrice of that of the global average. Over the last quarter the countries average speed grew 19 percent to touch the peak of 63.6 mega bits per second.


#1 Hong Kong (Peak Speed: 65.4mbps)


Hong Kong was awarded with the gold medal for the country with the fastest internet speed in the world. Clocked at 65.4 megabits per second the countries national average peak is regarded to be four times of that of the global average and is 21 percent faster when compared to the last quarter.
